Ingredients
  

  • For the Cake:
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix or homemade version
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 can 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • For the Coconut Pecan Frosting:
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 3 egg yolks beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions
 

  • For the Cake:
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together cake mix, milk, oil, and eggs until smooth.
  • Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool for 10 minutes, then use the back of a spoon or a wooden skewer to poke holes across the cake.
  • Slowly pour sweetened condensed milk over the cake, letting it soak into the holes.
  • For the Frosting:
  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add brown sugar, evaporated milk, and egg yolks, stirring constantly.
  • Cook until the mixture thickens (about 5 minutes), then remove from heat.
  • Stir in vanilla extract, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans. Let cool slightly.
  • Spread the frosting evenly over the cake. Let the cake rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

Make-Ahead Tip: Bake the cake a day in advance and refrigerate it before frosting for enhanced flavor.
Storage: Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 2 days or in the fridge for up to 5 days.
